A 20-year-old who is step-mother to her 44-year-old boyfriend's children, has pleaded with her viewers to 'normalise age gap relationship and becoming a step-mum at a young age'.

Content creator Ellie Liptrot, 20, met her 44-year-old partner, Mark, on a night out at the end of 2021 when she was just 18. 

The couple were introduced by a mutual friend and have been together for the last two years, and moved into their home Wales after just a few months together.

Shortly after, in June 2022, Mark's two children also moved into the family home and began referring to 20-year-old Ellie as their 'step mum'. 

In a 'get ready with me video' on TikTok, Ellie explained that she has faced a lot of criticism from those claiming she doesn't deserve the title of step-mother since she is not married to Mark.

In a 'get ready with me video' from New Years Eve last year, Ellie (pictured next to her step son) explained that she has faced a lot of criticism from those claiming she doesn't deserve the title of step mother since she is not married to Mark

After just a few months together, Ellie had moved in with Mark and the two were living together in a house in Wales

She said: ‘A lot of people are telling me I’m not a step mum because me and Mark aren’t married but, at the end of the day, if you provide for the children, if you care for them, if you look after them, if you cook tea for them every night, if you go out and buy them things – how does that make you not a step mum?’ 

Though Ellie says she is now 'besties' with her partner's children, she describes meeting Izzy, his eldest daughter as 'quite awkward' to begin with. 

While the pair look the picture of contentment, Ellie regularly faces critical comments on her videos and once described them as 'the most hated couple on the internet' because of their age gap.

Critics of the relationship have often compared Ellie to her stepdaughter, who is 15, with some even saying the teenager looks older than her dad's partner. 

Others have even gone as far as to say Ellie looks like she's one of three of Mark's children.

Though her relationship with Mark's family is ever thriving, Ellie said the relationship with a partner so much older than her, had caused tension with her own family who she is currently not on speaking terms with. 

Before becoming a full time content creator, Ellie previously worked as a dental nurse pre COVID before temporarily working an office job. 

In 2023, experts revealed the 'ideal age gap' for people who want their relationships to last - and it's bad news for couples born five years apart.

A resurfaced study by Emory University in Atlanta found that couples with a five-year age gap are 18 per cent more likely to separate than partners who are closer in age.

The chances of a split then shot up to 95 per cent of couples with a 20-year age gap.

In 2014, researchers at the institution analyzed 3,000 people as part of their study.

Researchers found that the 'ideal' age gap between couples was one year or less.

The study concluded that the chances of divorce dropped to just three per cent for couples who were born within 12 months or less of one another.
